Scene Analysis
The budget tier I have chosen is the Broadway Budget. I am designing a large proscenium stage. The show requires multiple sets that will need to be moved off and on stage. For my design project I am choosing to do the “Ground Rules” scene because it is when Agnes, Edith, and Margo are first brought into Gru’s home and shows the beginning of Gru’s and the children's relationship. In this scene, Gru has just adopted Edith, Agnes, and Margo and brings them into his house for the first time. The children do not know that Gru is an evil villain, so the scene is very humorous when the girls are not intrigued by Gru’s strict ground rules and interesting hospital that portrays his “evilness”. This scene expresses each of the character’s personality very well which is why I have chosen to design it. The scene will not be multi-level because it only takes place in Gru’s house. The backdrop I plan to have is a backdrop of the house’s walls. The overall tone of the scene is comical, it shows the girls’ lack of fear and shyness and Gru’s poor parenting skills that adds overall humor to the scene. (Link to Google Docs version)
Below also shows two more scenes and stage sets, but of course those aren't the only three scenes that will be covered throughout the play.
